Sydney Hughes- Class: Plant Fetishers versus Plant Managers
During my presentation of Ecology of Eden, my chapters discussed plant fetishers and plant managers. As I was reading and reflecting on my chapters, I tried to discover where I would lie between the two. Both plant managers and plant fetishers view humans' connection with nature very differently. Plant fetishers urged that there should be a connection between humans and nature (284). Plant managers strive to control nature along with the human population (286). Both of these schools also view rules very differently as well. Plant fetishers view rules as a way of protecting nature, while plant managers view rules as meddling with nature.
Therefore, I definitely find myself relating with the plant fetishers more so than the plant managers. One major reason why is because plant fetishers tend to see nature as "perfection, wholesome, and harmonious" (284). My relationship with nature tends to be very harmonious and therapeutic. Nature allows me to escape the realities and stressors of society.
