KT Watson- Family Farms

I went to preschool on a farm, a small scale nursery/babysitting program that took advantage of us (the students) as a source of free labor; this was probably one of my favorite schools I ever attended.  It lead to everyday interactions with nature and agriculture, and a childhood understanding of the human relationship with nature.  Early interactions with farms both establish an understanding of were we get our food and products, something not emphasized by many cultures in the west.  The farm itself was family run, selling its products in local markets and encouraging the children to grow their own food; this might have been helped by being in England, a much smaller country than America, their agricultural industry not as large/industrialized as America's.  This program might not thrive in a different country, due to accessibility issues.  Still, programs that encourage interaction with nature/agriculture at a young age could help increase ideas of environmentalism within a society.
